This morning, we decided to take a stroll to Long Bay Beach. The weather forecast assured us of a sunny day without any rain.
We walked from home to Long Bay, which took just over half an hour.
Long Bay Regional Park is situated a mere 20 km north of Auckland. This reserve serves as a sanctuary, safeguarding diverse coastal habitats, including sandy beaches, rocky reefs, estuarine mudflats, and mangroves.

At the Long Bay Marine Reserve
As we arrived at Long Bay, we were welcomed by the presence of pukekos, a native bird species. Nature enthusiasts will delight in the abundant birdlife throughout the park, including ducks that provide entertainment for toddlers.
The park offers plenty of parking spaces, and a well-maintained public toilet facility is behind.
The park has a campsite, plus other facilities, including toilets, changing rooms, showers, and barbecue sites. Noteworthy park features include a dedicated children’s play area to entertain the little ones.
The calm waters make it ideal for a relaxing swim, while the park offers a range of activities to entertain visitors of all ages. A spacious grassed area with shady trees awaits, a favorite spot to engage in activities such as playing ball, flying kites, or simply basking in the warm sun.
Booking.comArriving at the beach
When we walked to the beach, numerous people were leisurely strolling along the shore, and some of them had their dogs joyfully frolicking and playing in the water.
This remarkable coastal gem boasts a kilometer-long sandy beach that gently slopes to crystal-clear waters.
We admired the picturesque cliffs adorned with breathtaking rock formations at both ends of the expansive beach, creating an ideal setting for a photography enthusiast like me.
The rock formations are truly remarkable. We were amazed by the intricate layers that have been shaped over time. You’ll encounter contrasting black-colored rocks on the beach, creating a visually striking scene. While I am not an expert on the specific rock types or their formation processes, I have captured some stunning images to share.
During low tide, the beach becomes a spacious and easily walkable stretch, wider than a few sports fields.
You’ll find magnificent Pohutukawa trees atop the cliffs, offering a beautiful sight.
The park’s primarily flat terrain makes it feasible for wheelchair access, ensuring inclusivity for all visitors.
Nature Trails
Long Bay Regional Park offers a range of walks that cater to various preferences and fitness levels, ranging from 15 to 20 minutes to more extensive hikes lasting 3 to 4 hours.
As the rain began to fall, we postponed our exploration of the trail at Long Bay for our next visit. Rest assured. We will share a link to the upcoming article about the trail once it is uploaded.
