Travel with My Lens

About Travel With Lens

Real Journeys, Not Just Destinations

So, what is Travel With Lens all about?

It is simply a place where I share the journeys my wife and I take, the places we visit, the hikes we enjoy, and the experiences we have along the way.

We travel in Malaysia and around the world, and I document our journeys through stories, photographs and videos. I am less interested in simply telling you where to go and more interested in showing you what it is actually like to be there.

And there is a simple reason why I started doing this.

After years of traveling and taking hundreds, sometimes thousands, of photographs, I found myself looking back at them and wondering, Where exactly was this? What was the story behind this photograph?

I didn't want those memories to fade away.

So I started Travel With Lens to record the places we visit, the things we experience and the stories behind the photographs.

And if you enjoy following real journeys as much as I do, I hope you will enjoy coming along with us.

Travel as We Experience It

I don't want Travel With Lens to be another website full of travel facts that you can easily find anywhere on the Internet. There are already plenty of websites that can tell you the distance, opening hours, entrance fees and other practical information about a destination.

What interests me more is the experience.

What was it actually like to be there? What did we see and do? What surprised us? What was difficult? What did we enjoy? And sometimes, what went wrong?
I would rather tell you the story of our journey than simply describe a destination.

Everything here comes from places we have actually visited and experiences we have personally had. The photographs and videos are part of that story too. They help me remember our travels and hopefully give you a feeling of what it was like to be there.

Exploring Malaysia and the World

Malaysia is my home country, and I want to explore as much of it as I can.

We have traveled to many parts of Malaysia, but there is still so much more to see. We are especially drawn to nature. We love mountains, jungles, waterfalls, forests and beautiful viewpoints.

And whenever I visit somewhere new, there is a good chance I will be looking for somewhere to hike.

That is why you will find quite a lot of hiking and outdoor adventures here. Some hikes are easy and enjoyable, while others are much more challenging. But every hike has its own story.

Our travels also take us far beyond Malaysia. For about 10 years, my wife and I have traveled together regularly whenever we have the time and opportunity. Roughly half of our travels are within Malaysia and the other half are overseas.
We have traveled to many parts of Asia, including China, Nepal, and much farther afield and Antarctica.

For me, travel isn't simply about ticking another country off a list. I want to experience the place, see how people live, explore the landscape, try the food, walk around and, whenever possible, get out into nature.

And of course, I take plenty of photographs and videos along the way.

From Pharmacist to Food Writer to Traveler

My journey into travel blogging didn't actually begin with travel.

I originally graduated as a pharmacist and worked as a pharmacist for many years. Around the same time, my wife started a café, and I gradually became involved in the business. Being around the café sparked my interest in cooking, which eventually led me to start Taste of Asian Food, where I began documenting the recipes I cooked and sharing them with people who enjoy Asian food.

Over time, I also started making videos and taking photographs. Then I realized that whenever my wife and I had time, we were traveling, taking photographs and recording our experiences.

It felt natural to start documenting those journeys too.

And that eventually became Travel With Lens.

I Don't Like Putting Myself in a Box

I have never felt the need to put myself into one box.

I started out as a pharmacist, became involved in a restaurant, discovered a passion for cooking and food writing, and eventually found myself traveling, taking photographs and making videos.

I don't see these as completely different chapters of my life. Each experience has simply led me somewhere new.

I like trying new things, following what interests me and seeing where it takes me.

Life is short, and I don't think we need to spend it worrying too much about labels.

The Journey Continues

I'm still exploring.

There are many more places in Malaysia that I want to visit, many more trails that I want to walk and many more parts of the world that I would like to see.

I'll continue to photograph, film and write about those journeys along the way.

Perhaps one day, when I look back at those photographs again, I won't have to wonder where they were taken.

The story will be here.

And if those stories inspire you to visit somewhere new, explore a trail, discover a place in Malaysia, or simply see the world from a different perspective, then sharing them becomes even more worthwhile.

Thank you for joining me on the journey.
