Jewel Changi Airport has made the Singapore international airport more than a place to enter and leave Singapore.

There’s a reason the Changi Airport is one of the best in Southeast Asia; surrounded by lush green gardens and beautiful attractions, this shopping center cum entertainment hub surely beats the rest. However, when you enter the Jewel Changi Airport, you’re surprised by the immense beauty of the main centerpiece, the Rain Vortex, cascading below. You can’t help but wonder how this mystical masterpiece came to reality. 

The Changi Airport Group owns the complex. But, of course, the project Jewel lies in the creativity and intelligence of Safdie architects, led by the chief architect Moshe Safdie beautifully sculpted the Jewel.

Jewel is easily accessible by pedestrian bridges from all the airport terminals, departure hall, and arrival hall. Also, four cardinal axes connect Jewel to four gateway gardens.

There are many leisure attractions at the Jewel Changi Airport for tourists in Singapore to enjoy during transit and long layovers. From entertainment complexes, a marketplace, and a paradise garden to a relaxing hotel, there’s everything imaginable at the Jewel.

A. HSBC Rain Vortex and Shiseido forest valley

Did you know that the HSBC Rain Vortex is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall? At the apex of Jewel is an oculus glass roof where the water gushes down from 40 meters high, an impressive sight. Tourists love to head to the Rain Vortex and marvel at its stunning form.

You can view the vortex from different angles. It is located at the center of the complex, free for everyone.

The water cascading down is phenomenal when you view it at ground level.

The Shiseido forest valley surrounds the Rain Vortex. So it is with alleys of lush greenery, with dancing lights illuminating the trees and playing soothing music in the background. It also releases the signature scent of Shiseido that delight your sense.

B. Canopy Park at Jewel Changi Airport

The Canopy Park is located on the fifth level of Jewel Changi Airport. These are paid attractions. However, you can buy a bundle ticket to access various attractions below, which is cheaper than you purchase separate tickets.

There are nine attractions in Canopy Park.

1. Hedge Maze

If you’ve always been fascinated with the confusing maze in Harry Potter, you’ll love the planted Hedge Maze in Jewel Changi Airport. A criss-cross of leafy walls, the Hedge Maze is the largest maze in Singapore, so try not to get lost! Of course, tourists love to dwell in the Hedge Maze and find their path, but the true beauty in the Hedge Maze is the Watch Tower in the center, which awaits eager visitors. Climb to the top of the Watch Tower and be mesmerized by the birds’ eye view of the maze.

2. Mirror Maze

If you love kaleidoscopes, mischievous corners, and staring at yourself in the mirror, you’ll love the Mirror Maze. Step inside this prismatic corner, and you’ll find yourself lost in the colors. Giggle at your reflections and try to figure the way out; it will take a little time, but you’ll love every moment.

3. Topiary Walk

Topiary Walk is one of the popular walking trails in Canopy Park, with eye-catching topiary animals to brighten up your day.

If you’ve got eager kids with you, or if you’ve got a curious eye, take a walk in the Canopy Park’s Topiary and try to spot as many animals as possible. Beautiful reptiles, birds, and other animals sculpted from flowers hide behind the trees, peering curiously at the guests who walk by. Play hide and seek with the animals and enjoy a whimsical walk around the park.

4. Discovery Slides

Discovery Slice is a work of art. It is more than a playground, and it is a viewing deck.

The design is a sculpture resembling a gemstone, in which part is carved out to become the slides, stairs, and rope climbs. 

The viewing deck on the discovery slides provides a magnificent view of the Jewels Forest Valley and the Rain Vortex.

It is a place for the young and the young at heart.

5. Foggy Bowls

It is a place for toddlers and kids especially. They will love to step into the bowl, which reacts by puffing out clouds of mist.

They will love to play in the dream setting when fog fills the bowls and let their imagination take flight.

6. Walking Net

A fun adventure for families and friends, the Walking Net is constructed with net structures suspended within the trees. The Walking Net suspends 25 meters high and offers a wobbly and fun course for guests to balance onto. The Walking Net looks down below the Canopy Park and walks alongside trees.

7. Bouncing Net

Who doesn’t love bouncing nets? Although jumping nets are common everywhere, you’ll love the one at the Jewel Changi Airport. Positioned 8 meters high, the Bouncing Net of Jewel Changi Airport overlooks shrubs and trees, so it feels like you’re jumping with Mother Nature. The Bouncing Net is an excellent tourist activity for kids and adults, though you must be careful about balancing.

8. Petal Garden

Jewel is famous for its indoor gardens. For nature and plant lovers, there is nowhere better than the Petal Garden, which exactly looks like it sounds. Adorned in various colorful arrangements of aromatic floral species, the Petal Garden is too stunning to put together in words. The Petal Garden boasts native and imported species of flowers, which pull tourists using their alluring floral scent. For nature lovers, visiting the Petal Garden equals stepping into heaven.

9. Canopy Bridge

The Jewel Changi Airport is fashioned like indoor forestry, so you’ll find refreshing greenery everywhere. But if you genuinely want to explore Jewel’s greenery, take a walk across the Canopy Bridge, a suspended bridge that hangs close to the ceiling, almost 23 meters above the ground. Mists of fog are sprayed around the corner while tourists peer over the glass bridge; it truly is an unforgettable sight.

C. Changi Experience Studio at Jewel Changi Airport

Changi Experience Studio is the latest attraction in Jewel Changi Airport. The studio is located on the 4th floor near Lobby C.

Getting into the studio is a journey of fun and discovery.

It provides interactive experiences of the world’s best airport in the form of arcade games, projection storytelling, immersive shows to gallery exhibits.

You should prepare to spend an hour completing all the games and activities. A separate ticket from the Canopy Walk is required to enter the studio.

4. Yotelair Singapore Changi and Baggage Storage

For tourists who have to spend at least a couple of hours or overnight in Singapore, the Yotelair Singapore Changi hotel is perfect. This 3-star hotel is situated in the Changi Airport on the fourth floor and offers luxurious, comfortable rooms for tired guests. In addition, the hotel offers accessible rooms with opulent amenities and facilities, including super-fast WiFi and an adjustable smart bed.

One of the outstanding airport facilities is the baggage storage service. Luggage and wheeled bags are not allowed in the Canopy Park and Shiseido Forest Valley but can be left at the baggage storage.

Tourists at the terminal don’t have to look far for great dining options; the Jewel Changi Airport has over a hundred dining outlets to choose from, and you’ll be surprised by all it has to offer.

The retail outlets at the Jewel invite national and international brands, so you’ll find everything you want. The shopping complex has 117 national and international brands, including Apple Store, Adidas, and more. Whether you’re buying for yourself, your family, or your friends, you will find loads!
